Bible Study update Dec. 7, 2011

Notes for all of our sessions of Mark are now here on the blog (under New Testament).

Our study of Mark is coming to a close – next week (Dec. 14 and 15) we will read chapters 15 and 16.

We will take  a break for the Christmas season and come back January 11 and 12 with a study of Genesis and Exodus.  Look for that schedule to be posted in the next day or two.

I am now compiling an email list to keep people updated and to alert them to changes due to weather or sickness.  Let me know if you want to be added to that list.

Bible Study update – October 3

This week we are reading Mark chapter 6.

Our study has been going very well, attendance has been fairly steady with about 10 folks on Wednesday afternoons and 7 or 8 folks on Thursday evenings.  We always have room for more!

Remember – when we meet on Wednesdays after the noon mass I always have some light snacks to tide you over.

Schedule for 2011 – 2012

All bible study sessions are held at Wilde Lake Interfaith Center. Each program runs on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:00 (after the noon mass) and from 7:30 to 9:00 in the evenings on Thursdays. Light refreshments are provided after the noon mass sessions on Wednesdays to tide folks over. In the fall of 2011 we will slowly read and study the Gospel of Mark. Mark will be the gospel we will read at Sunday mass in cycle B, beginning in Advent 2011. We will read 3 chapters each week, but focus our discussion on one chapter. We will look at the allusions to other scripture texts, explore the symbols and names, and much more. In addition to the focus chapter we will read the chapter before it (what happened before this chapter?) and the one after it (where will this chapter take us?). These sessions will be held on Wednesdays September 7 through Wednesday December 14 from 12:30 to 2:00. We will also do the same program on Thursdays September 8 through December 15 from 7:30 to 9:00. The only exception – we will not meet the week of Thanksgiving (Nov. 23/24) In 2012, from early January to May (except for Holy Week April 4/5) we will read the Torah – Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy. These sessions will be held on Wednesdays January 11 through Wednesday May 23 from 12:30 to 2:00. We will also do the same program on Thursdays January 12 through May 24 from 7:30 to 9:00.
